THIS IS A MUSIC BLOG

By Ben Goodbye

The other day I was compared to Carrie Bradshaw, people told me they’d imagined me sitting of my bed with my MacBook smoking a Marlboro light writing about failed relationships. Yeah, thanks guys
Tbh, I think I’m a nice blend of Charlotte and Samantha,
“I will wear whatever and blow whomever I want as long as I can breathe and kneel.” - Samantha
“Sex can still be great, even without an orgasm.” - Charlotte
I’m sure I’ve said something like that in the past

This is a music blog so I guess I should write about music. Nah!
Apparently I drank a little too much vodka at this BIG IN JAPAN this week. One of the last things I remember is my friend leaving and saying, “Mate, can you get my coat.” Next thing I knew I was being forcefully dragged into the club and then ending the night doing shots of tequila rose in the basement. The rest is a blur
Woke up the next morning to find out what carnage I had created. I was told it was a lot. I think I might be disowned if I say what happened but the experience will definitely stay with me. When you hit rock bottom real bad I doubt the feeling will ever go away that easily.

DATING RULES

By Ben Goodbye

The rule is you're not allowed to date someone your friend dated—ever. By the same token, you are never allowed to date your ex's friends. If you want to go out with a boy/girl but you kind of know his ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend, that's fine. Just don't expect to be friends with them ever again
I've broken this rule to often

I was left tenderhearted and frail when a group of us caught my "ex" with some guy in the toilet just after he said those three little words, few weeks later found out he slept with some gay I’ve never hated so much. Turns out he hid a lot from me.
We're done now. I guess thats karma.
But on the upside, I lost so much weight because of it

Cuizinier

By Ben Goodbye

Cuizinier is a $tunts/Institubes artist and a member of French rap heavyweights TTC. The first two volumes of his Pour Les Filles mixtapes are bestsellers. Guilty pleasures fetishists, preppy boys, gully girls and controversy addicts worldwide. Cuizinier, the Artist. Your girlfriend's boyfriend

Cuizinier is on his way to being France’s premiere rap artist. The Institubes blog just dropped a mega bomb with “Lettre F”, an exclusive Cuizinier track featuring Spank Rock and Pase Rock. It’s total pop with a dangerous edge, like the perfect marriage between Pour Les Filles and Spank Rock’s 2 Live Crew-inspired Bangers and Cash project. Obviously, this musical coup is totally worthy of being a classic summer jam, and I’m sure I’ll be playing it poolside and clubside and seaside for the next few months. It’s so fun. you can imagine Spank, Pase and Cuiz hanging out in the studio and going crazy. The track was produced by TTC member Orgasmic, who’s signature glossy ‘80s style is all over the song. Loves it

Bobmo

By Ben Goodbye

The early hours of Saturday morning while dancing to Das Glow at Fabric London, Institubes new boy Bobmo landed on me after a failed stage dive. The state I was in I didn’t know what to do when he came flying at me.
This moment is probably my second favourite moment of this year so far. The first being the best sex I’ve ever had a month back, but that’s now for now.

Bobmo is a young producer hailing from the hyperactive city of Paris via the even more hyper city of Bordeaux. While in high school he launched a short-lived rap career, spitting awkward tales of murder and woe. Bordeaux is a pretty cool place and, hanging out with the right crowd, going to the right club, and listening to the right radio show, Bobmo got into Detroit techno, Miami bass, electro and, most importantly, Chicago house. Taking influence from such legendry labels Dancemania and Trax, the result LET'S GO BOBMO! Played by such luminaries as Sinden, Justice, MSTRKRFT, Diplo, Busy P, etc.

With this success he went on re-release the stand-out track "To the Bobmobile". Now he's back with his second 12" “3000% YES”.
"Rock The" speaks a fluent percussive House, "Legally Dead for 4'31" delivers 4 minutes and 31 seconds of jacking electro and "Get ‘Em, Junior" wraps things up on a techno tip. Cheap-sounding synths blossoming into ecstatic fuzziness...You get a lot more than you bargained for.

love being a dj

By Ben Goodbye

When you go out every night the whole thing becomes a big boring chore, you get bored of seeing the same pontificating “dude” who use his eyes to gesticulate and pretend dying their hair and hunting for vintage shirts and jackets is “not giving a shit and unique” who you just want to punch them

Or the girl wearing white tights and “There’s no place like home” shoes you want to trip up. She’s the type you think there’s flowers and meeting her mum involved and waiting nine dates for any action. Obviously, you’d only have to wait one date or less

A huge guilty pleasure of being a DJ is cutting the line and marching right up to the velvet rope all casual, going, "Hi, I'm the DJ." I like to go to a gig dressed like a total slob. The nicer the club, the shittier I look. Then I can stroll past all those above types and make a big huge deal about going through the door first

JOE AND WILL ASK? / THE SHOES

JOE AND WILL ASK? (LIVE) + ARVEENE (13/03/08)

Known around London for playing at club nights like Boombox and 1234 festival, these boys know that they're doing. The above MP3 is a recording from the night, one of their more known tunes, 'single' which is undeniably infectious - definately one of my favourites by them.

Arveene's set last Thursday blew me away - he proved me wrong in my argument for the necessity of laptops for mashing-up and playing with the sound. He'd loop tracks, pile on the effects, drop samples - much like you can with Abelton or Traktor but on CDJ's. It's nothing new - but Arveene seems to do it to an extent I haven't really seen before (other than 2manydjs or Justice etc).

THE SHOES (LIVE) (06/03/08)

I don't think you could have more fun than watching The Shoes. The energy they give out - how they engange with the audience is certinaly refreshing in the current electro scene. There is no pretention here, these boys just want to have a good time. It helps their tracks are amazing too!

They played 11 tracks, including their single which was released last week (17th March) 'Knock Out'. Other highlights was their remix of Primary 1 which brought them to our attention last year, as well as their remix (better than the original in my opinion) of Hadouken's Leap of Faith.

This was their second gig at Big In Japan, don't be surprised if the next time their in the UK you'll only be able to catch them at festivals or somewhere like Fabric.

Definately one to keep an eye on.

A SUCKER FOR ANYTHING THAT SHINES

by Ben Goodbye

photos by Ben Goodbye and Leoni Blue

Fools Gold is now my favourite record label. A label where they can release GLC and Kid Sister side-to-side without it being a stretch
Founded by DJs A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs, the two have spent months sharing music and creative projects including Bag Raiders, Chromeo, Jokers Of The Scene, Kavinsky and XXXChange to name a few

Well boys and girls, from Fools Gold I introduce Kid Cudi. Born and raised in Cleveland, currently residing in BK. At the age of 15, Kid Cudi recorded his first song on a karaoke machine in his friend’s basement. It was a freestyle over the beat to Wu-Tang Clan’s “It's Yourz,” an undeniable hip-hop classic. From recording on a karaoke machine in his friend’s basement, he’s now packing out venues all over the US with some of his Fools Gold friends, Kid Sister, A-Trak, and the Cool Kids
His debut single "Day 'N' Nite" is one of the most hypnotic and original tracks to come out of the scene in some time. a spaced out, R&B influenced tale of loneliness and isolation, something not often heard in the world of hip-hop anymore
And tbh the remix done by Italian deejay superstars Crookers is ABSOLUTELY UNFUCKWITHABLE

CREATION

We start this blog with some very special things for you. First up, some music.

JUSTICE - DVNO (La Riots Remix) zShare link. [MP3]

Justice have had more of their songs remixed than anyone else in recent memory. Theres something nice about getting your hands on an amazing remix of a song that you used to have, but maybe overplayed - it breathes new life into something that got too familiar. For the most part the remixes never live up to the originals, especially the case with Justice, but LA Riots seem to deliever killer remixes time after time and this song is no exception.

HOT CHIP - Ready For The Floor (Soulwax Dub) zShare link. [MP3]

Going back a few months now for one of my favourite remixes to come our recently, a remix by Soulwax of Hot Chip's 'Ready for the floor'. Most remembered for last years summer anthem 'Over and Over' and preceding single 'Shake a Fist' this most recent addition is one of my favourite. It's one of those songs you instantly love from the start.

Look out for Soulwax vs. Justice 'Disco Sirens' an AMAZING new tune debuted on Annie Mac's mashup last week. We'll be posting it as soon as we get our hands on it.

THE WHIP - Trash (Crookers Remix) Direct link. [MP3]

This track from The Whip is remixed by Crookers, sharing the same label (Southern Fried Records) it was only a matter of time before they worked together. Trash was one of my favourite songs last summer, it's been remixed by the amazing 'Bloody Beetroots' and Crookers are by far some fo the
most exciting producers to emerge last year. It's quite different to their normal sound, but good none the less.
