Blue, green, yellow, red – these E-number stuffed alco-drinks have got a lot to answer for. Can’t you tell a lot about people from what they drink? Who drinks alcopops? No, go one – who drinks them? Irksome kids in parks, people in nightclubs that can’t spell and my good friend Charlie

Iglu & Hartly

By Hello Mozart!

It's rare that I write a blog post for a specific band or song, but I felt this appropriate. Iglu & Hartly, haven't heard of them? You will. The buzz on the internet quite rightly says they "are really just one Jo Whiley play and/or well-received televised festival appearance away from becoming one of the summer's success stories."

It's taken me a couple of listens to really get them, but they're sickly hooky vocals, especially in the chorus, make their track 'In This City' one of the top contenders for this summers massive anthem.

It's late, and I can't be bothered to write much more, but the track speaks for itself. If you wanna know more, hit up google, they're one of the most talked about bands on the net.

Hot.

There comes a time...

By Hello Mozart!

So the summer is finally here, the students are, for the most part moving away from Bournemouth, or going home until September. This year has been amazing for us, we've seen Big in Japan go from strength to strength bringing Bournemouth some of the best and most exciting DJ's and live acts from the UK.

BIG IN JAPAN WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE OF THE SUMMER MONTHS.

So for all you party people who are staying to soak up the sun for a month or two before (probably) moving up to that place we call 'The City' - We will be here to supply you with the weekly dose of Big in Japan.
So in commemoration of the amazing year that we've had, the amazing summer were going to have, and the amazing year we'll start in September - here are a few 'best of' and summer tunes.

MGMT kind of came out of nowhere. A few months ago they exploded onto the blog scene and for me, their song Time to Pretend is not only an anthum for the summer, but for our generation.

"This is our decision, to live fast and die young.
We've got the vision, now let's have some fun. Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do.
Get jobs in offices, and wake up for the morning commute."

MGMT - Time to Pretend [MP3, FileDen]

Sonny J is fast proving himself the king of retro samples. D.A.N.C.E eat your heart out with this perfect example of how to use samples. Such a summer tune, as was his last single 'Handsfree', its perfect to whack on a friday afternoon while heading to the beach.

Sonny J - Can't Stop Moving [MP3, FileDen]

This tracks hella old now, but my love for it was refreshed at the Institubes Party at Fabric a few weeks back. Hearing Das Pop belt it out at 4AM was one of the most perfect moments of the night. It's definitely a feel good track, love the bass which is held back til the perfect moment just after the 2min mark, feels a little Daft Punky - but definitely one of my favorite Para One remixes.

Ayumi Hamasaki - Greatful Days (Para One Remix) [MP3, FileDen]

Twice time Big in Japan favourite's, The Shoes love song. I can only imagine how many girls they've sung into bed with this track. However, the fact remains its a beautiful cover, a rare find in the electro scene of today. Perfect for when the sun is coming up and you havn't slept yet, grab that blanket, go sit outside with all your mates and watch the sun come up. (That sounded much less cheesy in my head)

The Shoes - I'm 4 Real [MP3, FileDen]

Next of Kin is the second song from the institubes boys that i've posted, but definately deserves a spot on this summer hit list. It's 80's feeling vocals and the crowd samples int he backgroundhelp to make this song feel like its going to be a big hit. Whether it is or not doesn't matter, cause its a perfectly formed pop track - totally radio playable, yet definitely Surkin. Perfect.

Surkin - Next of Kin [MP3, FileDen]

I chose to put this track on purely for the fact its saved me so many times at Dusk Til Dawn. When the dancefloor's looking a little empty, and people are all smoking - its one of those songs that the people at the back will move their asses down to the dancefloor for. It's impossible not to dance to this track with its stupidly catchy lyrics and vocals, delivered by that (somewhat annoying, but only person who could pull it off) french kid Uffie!

Justice - The Party (Feat. Uffie) [MP3, FileDen]

Finally, one that should be party of every itunes and on every ipod - Big in Japan by those 80's legends Alphaville. It's easy to see why we named our night after it with a hook line like: 'Thing are easy when you're Big in Japan" - it's certainly kept me sane while staying in the culturally dead Bournemouth! So when your playing that house party and I ask for this track, I want no excuses! ENJOY!

Alphaville - Big in Japan [MP3, FileDen]

THIS SUMMER IS GOING TO BE A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

THIS IS A MUSIC BLOG

By Ben Goodbye

The other day I was compared to Carrie Bradshaw, people told me they’d imagined me sitting of my bed with my MacBook smoking a Marlboro light writing about failed relationships. Yeah, thanks guys
Tbh, I think I’m a nice blend of Charlotte and Samantha,
“I will wear whatever and blow whomever I want as long as I can breathe and kneel.” - Samantha
“Sex can still be great, even without an orgasm.” - Charlotte
I’m sure I’ve said something like that in the past

This is a music blog so I guess I should write about music. Nah!
Apparently I drank a little too much vodka at this BIG IN JAPAN this week. One of the last things I remember is my friend leaving and saying, “Mate, can you get my coat.” Next thing I knew I was being forcefully dragged into the club and then ending the night doing shots of tequila rose in the basement. The rest is a blur
Woke up the next morning to find out what carnage I had created. I was told it was a lot. I think I might be disowned if I say what happened but the experience will definitely stay with me. When you hit rock bottom real bad I doubt the feeling will ever go away that easily.

DATING RULES

By Ben Goodbye

The rule is you're not allowed to date someone your friend dated—ever. By the same token, you are never allowed to date your ex's friends. If you want to go out with a boy/girl but you kind of know his ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend, that's fine. Just don't expect to be friends with them ever again
I've broken this rule to often

I was left tenderhearted and frail when a group of us caught my "ex" with some guy in the toilet just after he said those three little words, few weeks later found out he slept with some gay I’ve never hated so much. Turns out he hid a lot from me.
We're done now. I guess thats karma.
But on the upside, I lost so much weight because of it

Cuizinier

By Ben Goodbye

Cuizinier is a $tunts/Institubes artist and a member of French rap heavyweights TTC. The first two volumes of his Pour Les Filles mixtapes are bestsellers. Guilty pleasures fetishists, preppy boys, gully girls and controversy addicts worldwide. Cuizinier, the Artist. Your girlfriend's boyfriend

Cuizinier is on his way to being France’s premiere rap artist. The Institubes blog just dropped a mega bomb with “Lettre F”, an exclusive Cuizinier track featuring Spank Rock and Pase Rock. It’s total pop with a dangerous edge, like the perfect marriage between Pour Les Filles and Spank Rock’s 2 Live Crew-inspired Bangers and Cash project. Obviously, this musical coup is totally worthy of being a classic summer jam, and I’m sure I’ll be playing it poolside and clubside and seaside for the next few months. It’s so fun. you can imagine Spank, Pase and Cuiz hanging out in the studio and going crazy. The track was produced by TTC member Orgasmic, who’s signature glossy ‘80s style is all over the song. Loves it

Bobmo

By Ben Goodbye

The early hours of Saturday morning while dancing to Das Glow at Fabric London, Institubes new boy Bobmo landed on me after a failed stage dive. The state I was in I didn’t know what to do when he came flying at me.
This moment is probably my second favourite moment of this year so far. The first being the best sex I’ve ever had a month back, but that’s now for now.

Bobmo is a young producer hailing from the hyperactive city of Paris via the even more hyper city of Bordeaux. While in high school he launched a short-lived rap career, spitting awkward tales of murder and woe. Bordeaux is a pretty cool place and, hanging out with the right crowd, going to the right club, and listening to the right radio show, Bobmo got into Detroit techno, Miami bass, electro and, most importantly, Chicago house. Taking influence from such legendry labels Dancemania and Trax, the result LET'S GO BOBMO! Played by such luminaries as Sinden, Justice, MSTRKRFT, Diplo, Busy P, etc.

With this success he went on re-release the stand-out track "To the Bobmobile". Now he's back with his second 12" “3000% YES”.
"Rock The" speaks a fluent percussive House, "Legally Dead for 4'31" delivers 4 minutes and 31 seconds of jacking electro and "Get ‘Em, Junior" wraps things up on a techno tip. Cheap-sounding synths blossoming into ecstatic fuzziness...You get a lot more than you bargained for.
