Norman Jay MBE

Over the last few days I've been sifting through the extensive lists of essential mixes from the past nearly 20 years. Amongst others, this lovely 2 hour gem of a mix from Noman Jay (MBE no less) really piqued my interest. I've never heard Norman play a house set before, but he is well known for them.

After the UK (Acid) House explosion in the late 80s, a lot of the underground house heads moved to a smoother more garage sound to try and distance themselves from the masses. This gave Norman the perfect opportunity to play all the 80s NY garage records he'd been religiously buying on trips to NY and Paradise Garage and the sound in this DJ mix appears to be a natural evolution from that.
