Dury & Jankel

For a while now I've been meaning to post a little bit about one of my best loved duos, but I've been spurred on today following the arrival of one of my new obsessions. The obsessesion in question is the collection of old Face and ID magazine, mainly from the 80s, and the item that arrived today was a The Face No. 17, publish in September 1981.

The article which we're concerning ourselves with today is an interview with Ian Dury and Chas Jankel, responsible for one of my favourite songs of all time 'Spasticus Autisticus', which last time I played at BIJ I had a young righteous chap telling me how disgusted he was at the lyrical content. Follow me attempting to explain the background to the song and the singers illness to no avail, prompting me to tell him to 'Fuck off back to the BBC'.

Anyway, here are lovely pages in full (click for biggerer ones), and I'll see you down the front tonight at The Book Club for some Spartan chanting!

BIGINJAPAN LDN APRIL PARTY

Breaking the bank holiday, Big In Japan are back for their monthly showdown at The Book Club on the back of a belter last month with Luke Unabomber. Usually the last Friday of the month, the BIJ crew have stepped up to take on the Thursday on this special Bank Holiday weekend.

In keeping with their usual output of top quality DJ talent they have invited Justin Robertson to headline under his Deadstock 33’s alias. With a darker psychedelic disco twist on his previous musical outings Justin’s Deadstock alter ego has remixed the Erol Alkan & Boyznoise track Lemonade, collaborated with Big In Japan regular Stopmakingme as well as some tasty edits of Gino Soccio’s – Who Dunnit and Timmy Thomas – Africano to name but a few. Head to his Soundcloud page for downloads and recent mixes. In support we have invited one half of the driving force behind the ReviveHer parties Bi-Bop, who recently played host to Lovefingers and Johnny Nash from ESP. As a prolific international DJ and Bugged Out regular, there is no doubting this guy’s talent.
